Print Studio: How does it work?

The Print Studio can be booked in advance in 4-hour sessions or 8-hour sessions. There are two sessions daily from 9 am and 1 pm on Weekdays and Weekends (by appointment).

You will need to have completed the studio workshop before booking. (Please do not book a studio before completing the workshop because refunds will not be given.)

Print Studio: How to Set Up

There's help available when you're settling in, which is included in the session fee and time.  

Cancellations: If your schedule changes, a full refund will be given if you cancel your booking within 48 hrs’ notice of the start of your studio session. Please email studio@alan-mcfetrdige.com to cancel.

Pricing: To simplify, the pricing is based on per square meter of paper used and a studio fee for half-day or full-day hire.

Orientation Workshop: To use the workflow and equipment, a 2-hour orientation workshop is required before you begin. This includes how to use the cold mounting and print scoring machines.

Orientation 1 to 1 Workshop cost £65 +VAT:  2 hours
The orientation workshop will teach you excellent starting knowledge on how to use the variety of equipment and services on offer at the ESL Print Studio. Once you complete the orientation workshop, you will be able to book the workshop for use by yourself whenever it’s free. Please call or email us to book your 1-to-1 workshop.

The orientation will include in-depth information about Equipment Demonstration, File and Paper Handling, Colour Management, Mounting and Print Varnishing. All workshops are 1 to 1 with a print professional.

Standard:
With the standard membership, you can save 10% from the First Base Pricing.

Membership:
Annual membership of £28 per month provides members with a 20% discount on papers. It is intended for individuals who print regularly; the cost of the annual membership is met at just 4 sq/m.

Our special offer for free membership is available for emerging artists, all students of photography and related arts as well as photographers and artists within five years after graduation or an equivalent autodidactic study.

Print Studio: The Space

Open Plan: The studio is open plan, and headphones are the best way to listen to music, podcasts and so on.

Food: A kitchenette with a coffee machine, kettle, fridge and benchtop for making sandwiches.

Print Studio: To Consider when printing

Paper Types - There are two broad paper distinctions. Because Proofing Paper is around half the cost of Fine Art Papers this is an economical way to preview your file as a print, then make corrections prior to committing to Fine Art Paper.

Mounting: Prints up to 600mm wide can be cold-pressed and dry mounted at the studio. The basic use and set-up of this machine are included in the (Introduction Workshop)
