Our Aims
oo With this project we want to provide a space to share different perspectives and experiences of living with fire initiated by Alan’s publication On The Line. We want to create a space for compassionate learning, reflection, and sharing. The responses collected will build towards the broader aim of an open resource for communities around the globe seeking a better understanding of fire as extremes become more common. By connecting local and global responses, we can build a better picture of the impacts of fire and what it means in different regions.
Your information
You are free to provide as much or as little information as you like. No personal information will be published or shared without your permission.
You will have the option to remain anonymous and how you would like your responses to be shared. Responses will be used to inform further work in the Centre for Ecological Philosophy.
Who are we?
Between 2016 and 2017 Alan McFetridge traveled twice to Fort McMurray to try and understand what happened after the Horse River Fire. His question was what happened after the flames? The publication that resulted from these trips was “On the Line” but we know this only captures a limited perspective.
Having recently founded the Centre for Ecological Philosophy, Alan is working alongside Emma Mcloughlin, a visual anthropologist investigating the role of visual culture in imagining and visualising the climate and landscape ecology. Her current research interest is understanding how photography as a practice can be informed by an ecological philosophy that is more environmentally and socially conscious and what contribution visual culture has to the climate conversation.
We really believe in the importance of making connections between the local residence effected by fire events and individuals on a global scale.
