Under This One Tree opens at Holland Park

Under This One Tree opens at Daisy Green Holland Park on the summer solstice, 21 June 2026. The exhibition forms part of Alan McFetridge’s Holland Park Artist Residency and the Sensing Earth and Being Nature programme.

A summer exhibition of photography, trees, landcare and public life, opening on the summer solstice.

Under This One Tree opens at Daisy Green Holland Park on the summer solstice, Sunday 21 June, from 4 to 8 pm.

This is the first body of work made during my Holland Park residency, and the inaugural exhibition of the Daisy Green Collection Artist Residency, curated by Justin Hibbs.

The exhibition brings together photography, trees, landcare and the living public space of Holland Park. It marks a return to my lifelong relationship with trees, and a movement from the fire affected landscapes I have worked with for many years into the sanctuary, atmosphere and tree life of an urban park.

The title Under This One Tree comes through a handwritten letter from Robert Adams, sent after he saw my book On The Line, made in the aftermath of the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire in Alberta, Canada. In the letter, Adams quoted a line from Zbigniew Herbert’s poem A Small Bird:

“How can we live anywhere else but in this one tree?”

That question has stayed with me and sits within this exhibition as a way of thinking about trees, shelter, belonging, ground and responsibility.
